• Manifacturer: Matias
• Model: Quiet-Click Switch
• Matias Quiet-Click Switches are the gray stem, Alps-inspired, Matias designed and tooled switches that give you a tactile experience that is also quiet. They are quieter than other mechanical switches, and feel great to type on. They have 60g actuation force, and force drops off quickly in a non-linear fashion as the key is pressed.
• For proper tactile feedback, you need a click leaf in the switch, or an equivalent mechanism. Cherry switches lack this. They are a linear design which is, by definition, NOT tactile. For users who like linear switches, Cherry are good, but they are NOT tactile.
• Over the years, the only recurring complaint we've heard, from users of our award-winning Tactile Pro, was the noise.
• Most people LOVE the clickiness of it — but sometimes, in some places, it's just too loud.
• It's great if you're in a room by yourself, but in an office, other people don't want to hear your typing. Perhaps your housemates don't either. This switch was created for those places.
• We tested springs, and click leaf shapes, and lubricants, and dampening mechanisms, and metal plates, and stabilizers, and... came to the conclusion that we didn't want to EVER have to do this again. We went a little crazy.
• BUT, when we were done, we had something truly unique and special — a tactile yet quiet mechanical keyswitch.
• The good news for you, is that because we went through this long and painful ordeal already, you don't have to. You can simply purchase these little jewels and use them in your own products.
• Built to last longer. The traditional ALPS switches that inspired our design had an operating life of 10 million cycles. Matias Quiet Click Switches last 5x longer — 50 million cycles.
• RGB backlight support. Our switch housing is transparent. Light shines right through it.
• This makes it easy to design backlit keyboards, as well as indicator lights that appear right on the actual keys — Caps Lock and Num Lock, for example.
• Best of all, this approach does not interfere with the feel of the switch, and there's no extra cost incurred. There is no separate "backlit version" of our switches. They all support backlighting — in ANY colour.
• Needless to say, we were very amused to see Cherry copy this idea in their Cherry MX RGB switches — the sincerest form of flattery.
• NKRO support. Most keyboards cannot register more than a few keys pressed at once, so they may not be able to keep up with very fast typists. The result is called ghosting — letters missing from what you actually typed, or additional letters that you didn't type.
• These problems can be eliminated completely on a mechanical keyboard, simply by adding a diode to each switch. This is one of the major advantages mechanical keyboards have over cheaper technologies.
• DIY-friendly. Most innovations start with hobbyists and DIY enthusiasts, so we want to do everything we can to support their development efforts. If you're making your own custom keyboard, we sell our switches in quantities small enough to build even just one (200 pcs).
